Finished work a little early to pick up a new poster, for the 3 exhibitions coming up (Wrexham/Chester on 8th - Sheffield/Chesterfield on 9th - Leeds on 15th June)

The new 'fresh' logo tops an image kindly supplied by Zebra Photography.

This early finish allowed us to enjoy a hot sunny evening at the allotment and catch up on some planting out.

Sweetcorn planted into bed B2, and French Beans into C2.

Ground still very damp from last 3 weeks of wet weather but watered strawberries in any case, along with pots.

Another couple of hot days forecast so should get a few more things planted.

Ajo Ajo Ajo

Cropped first garlic bulb - as big as last year's biggest, from an average sized plant so hopeful of a good return this year. Also cropped mustards, radish, new potatoes (still small).

Another big watering day... no major change in weather pattern on horizon and possibility of hosepipe ban spreading across border.

Planted out another row of (recovered) sunflowers in D2, 3 remaining dwarf french beans, more little gems in A1 - spinach beet and beetroot into C1 - few mixed lettuce into gaps in bed D1.

A whole lotta sowing going on

Taking full advantage of the new Polly House... which is packed out and has miraculously not blown away despite first strong westerlies, and then a week of stronger easterlies since we put it up.

Thur 7th May:
12 Savoy Cabbages seedlings potted on;
100 * Rhondo Peas 10* Sweetcorn (to finish packet off) 40* Dwarf French Beans 30* Russian Giant Sunflowers and a tray of Nasturtiums sown.

Sun 10th May:
6 Broccolli seedlings potted on;
Trays of seeds sown: Chantennay Carrots Penstemom Calendula
Seedlings planted out into the ground: Radish Mixed Salad Little Gem (Bed E) and Mixed Oriental Mustards (Bed C1) - to replace those eaten (by slugs/snails not us!).

Mon 11th May:
More sowings: 12 Physalis from an old packet Spinach Spinach Beet Sweet Peas

Weds 13th May:
And even more sowings: Mixed Salad Little Gem Mixed Oriental Mustards Beetroot (Choggia)
